Today was my annual visit to the doctor. I don’t know if doctor visits were ever like you see them on TV where you go in and the doctor spends at least half an hour checking you out and talking to you. Nowadays they last ten minutes if you’re lucky. Basically, the doctor, sorry actually it was the nurse practitioner, asks a few questions, listens to my heart, checks my feet because I have diabetes and then sends me for blood work. I’m really not complaining, I’m just wondering what all that other stuff was and why visits used to take so long. I’m all for getting things done quicker. I guess the visits get longer if the blood work comes back bad. Last year my A1C was 5.5, so I’m hoping it’s as good this year. I have to be careful though, last year everything came back good and I was bragging about how good things were,, and then BAM! kidney stones to keep me humble. I really don’t want to go through that again.
Tomorrow I go to my eye doctor and at the end of the month, I have an appointment with the cataract surgeon. Last year my eye doctor said I had cataracts but they weren’t bad enough for surgery yet, but should probably be ready by this time. I’ve already had one operated on. The good thing was after the surgery I didn’t need glasses! For someone who’s worn glasses since 6th grade that was a big thing. Sadly no one told me it didn’t last. I’m back to wearing glasses again.
I used to be that person who, never went to the doctor unless he was dying. And honestly that’s what changed my mind. I almost died for not going to the doctor. After that, I go whenever I feel something wrong. And since I”m getting older I figure it’s best to go on a regular basis.
So at the moment everything is good. We’ll wait and see what the blood works shows, but I’m not worried about that. My A1C may not be as good as last year, but hopefully still good.
Everyone go the doctor is you can. I know not everyone has the ability to go because of insurance and costs, but if you can please get a check up. And as a country we need to pass better health laws.
