Cyril the Cyclops
An Early Story
This is one of the earliest stories I wrote that was illustrated. I have no idea of the year, but probably before any of my work with Sam Kieth or Ron Wilber, who were the first artists that I did work with that were published in the Indie Market.
This was one of two stories I wrote featuring Cyril the Cyclops, and while it’s not the most profound piece of writing, I enjoyed the character. In the second story, he wanders into the fairly recently closed Ponchartain Beach, a New Orleans amusement park, and meets the ghost of a clown. I was fairly proud of that one. Unfortunately, I can’t even find the script for this story.
I honestly don’t know if this story ever appeared in print. From the graffiti on the second page that has the credits, it looks like it was slated for Plasma, a zine that Kirk Chritton published. The art is only signed with the last name Terral and I’m sorry to say I don’t remember who that could be. The inks are by Don M.
I wish I had more to say about the story or the people I worked with, but this was close to fifty years ago.
Maybe one day I’ll bring Cyril back.
